Two friends—both career sex workers and passionate community advocates—chatting over dinner, swapping stories. Somewhere between snort laughing and a dairy-free frozen yoghurt, we found ourselves discussing our struggles and wins trying to break down the doors in the business world.

“How is it that we can all be marketing gurus, copywriters, choreographers, accounting, admin, therapists.. and SO much more at a professional level, and it’s still this hard to be recognised in professional spaces?”
And just like that, the seed for Afterglow was planted.

We thought of the friends and community we’ve shared space with over our years in the industry, and the struggles they’ve shared. Creating this event didn’t feel optional anymore.
So, we did as our community has always done—we got to work creating the space we deserve both for ourselves, and for you.

Think provocative performances, talks that are as entertaining as they are useful, and a vibe that’s warm, inclusive, and full of life.

We believe that access is a major make or break when it comes to comfort and success. For that reason; we have chosen to run this event without profit on the agenda.

All ticket sales and sponsorships go to lowering ticket prices and paying sex workers performing, hosting and speaking for their expertise and time. Any non-sex worker with stage time at the event has kindly donated their time in the pursuit of active allyship. Any sponsors, allied businesses or organisations do not profit from supporting Afterglow.

As the organisers we, Nova Hawthorne + Harper Valentine, are donating our time to make sure this event becomes a reality for our community.

This event is strictly for sex workers and passionately allied businesses.

To ensure this - during ticket sales, non-sex workers were required both to verify themselves as well as buy an allied ticket. This means they MUST donate a ticket to a worker for every ticket they purchased.
Afterglow then privately passes on that ticket to a worker who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend the event.

Afterglow is dedicated to fostering professional relationships between industry folk and allied businesses to carving out room for sex workers in more traditional professional spaces.
